 New Orleans Youth Alliance Youth Leadership Fellowship

The NOYA Youth Leadership Fellowship prepares young people between the ages of 17-24 to assume leadership roles in the design and decision-making phases of systems, programs and initiatives impacting youth and their families in New Orleans. This pilot program will serve between five to seven youth from the Greater New Orleans area.

The NOYA Youth Leadership Fellowship program is broken down into three key components: Exposure experiences, workshops and trainings, and culminating projects.

Fellows will receive a stipend of $2,000 for their participation in the Fellowship. Fellows will meet weekly over the course of eight months for at least two hours per week. The minimal number of hours of participation in the Fellowship is 60 hours per year.

The ideal Fellow:

  • Needs minimal supervision to complete tasks

  • Manages time to complete tasks on schedule and helps team members complete tasks, as needed

  • Provides opportunities to give and receive constructive feedback

  • Develops and implements strategies for navigating in different contexts

  • Asks questions to deepen and/or clarify one’s understanding

  • Encourages the ideas, opinions, and contributions of others, leveraging individual strengths
